The number of Sarawak tourist arrivals in 2023 is expected to hit 4 million by year end.
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Karim Hamzah was quoted by The Star as saying that such figure is possible with Sarawak, particularly Kuching, is set to organize several major events until December 2023.
The minister was reported by The Star as saying that tourist figures have hit pre-pandemic levels to date, and is showing signs it will surpass the target set by his ministry this year.
The initial target of tourist arrivals was 3 million.
He also said that Sarawak’s highest ever number of visitors was 4.6 million in 2019, a figure recorded prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sarawak, particularly Kuching, is set to house a number of huge annual events this coming October, which include the Kuching Marathon, Borneo Sonic Music Festival, What About Kuching Festival and Siniawan Country Music Festival.
