Shopping malls in Kuching announce reopening

Kuching Shopping Mall reopening will see most shopping malls in Kuching re-opening for business tomorrow, 12 May 2020.

Despite re-opening and claiming that their operations will resume as usual, malls have been quick to also state they would be practicing the Conditional Movement Control Order (COCO) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as announced by the Sarawak Government recently.

tHe Spring Mall announced it will be in full operation beginning tomorrow but “it will be implementing strict preventive and control measures in and around the mall to best ensure your safety.” as it welcomed back shoppers from a new business operating hours which is from 8AM to 10PM.

The mall stated that salons and the cinema in the mall will however remain closed.

Centrally located Plaza Merdeka decided to offer free two hour parking for all visitors until 31st May as they re-open tomorrow in full. Like tHe Spring, Plaza Merdeka will also only observe business hours from 10AM to 8PM beginning tomorrow.

Another mall which decided to shorten their business operation during the CMCO is Boulevard Shopping Mall.

According to their announcement, the mall will be operating from 10AM – 7PM until 31st May 2020.

Meanwhile VivaCity Megamall which decided to retain its 10AM to 10PM operation hours, also announced it is opening its doors but stated that “Cinemas, karaoke centres, gym, hair salons, spas and beauty salons are to remain closed.”

CityOne Megamall on the other hand decided to re-open its mall with two different business hours.

All shops in the mall will be start business from 10AM, but non-essential shops will close two hours earlier, at 7PM.

Like VivaCity Megamall and tHe Spring, the CMCO SOPs will be also observed.

CityOne Megamall is not the only Kuching shopping mall reopening that is opting to have a variation in operation hours.

AEON Mall Kuching Central had also decided to change their business hours with the mall now opting to open from 12PM – 9PM during weekdays, and 10AM to 9PM during weekends.

In addition to that, the AEON supermarket will operate at 8AM – 9PM, while the GMS/Department Store will operate from 10AM – 9PM.

AEON Mall Kuching Central stated that the shorter business hours was to allow sanitation procedures in the premises.

Other smaller malls have also have also announced their re-opening on 12th May 2020 with Sarawak Plaza and Riverside Shopping Mall operating from 10AM to 7PM, Aeroville Mall stating their new business hours from 10AM – 8PM, Tun Jugah Mall operating from 10AM – 9PM,  and Green Heights Mall and Matang Mall operating from 10AM – 10PM.

The only ‘mall’ we noted that will not begin business tomorrow is The Hills, which stated they would begin business on 13 May 2020 instead.

Their new business hours will be from 10AM to 7PM, and entry to The Hills will be limited to Basement, Food Haven Main Door and UG Entrance.

Malls we didn’t mention either didn’t make an announcement of their reopening, or we failed to notice their announcement.

Kuching will enter the CMCO restrictions tomorrow after the MCO was implemented for over a month to curb the spread of Covid-10. For more information about the CMCO SOPs, go to this link.
