Kampung Punang Floating Mosque is set to become a new landmark for Lawas.
This ambitious project, with its distinctive “floating” design facing the vast South China Sea, promises to offer a uniquely serene and picturesque setting for prayer and contemplation.
Strategically located in Kampung Punang, this mosque will be integrated with the upcoming Punang Waterfront and Punang Nature Walk, hence amplifying the area’s charm and significantly boosting local tourism and community engagement.

Construction of this architectural marvel began in early 2021, driven by the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) under the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA).
The project has been progressing steadily, with the essential foundational works, including column structures, ground beams, and slabs, already successfully completed.
According to UKAS news report, works are now 99.6 per cent completed.
Once completed, the mosque will graciously accommodate 350 worshippers, establishing itself as a vital spiritual hub for the Kampung Punang community.

Based on the photos seen, the architectural details emphasis on a design that creates stunning reflections on the water’s surface, hence ensures a peaceful and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere.
The iconic minaret and dome highlight a thoughtful blend of traditional Islamic architecture with a modern, innovative approach befitting its unique waterside location.
