On 29 April 2026, a vibrant new café and social hub called Faculty of Makan Curtin University Malaysia officially opened its doors.
The Faculty of Makan Curtin University Malaysia is an exciting addition to campus life, blending modern Malaysian comfort food, collaborative spaces, and community spirit.
Conceived as more than just a place to eat, it serves as a lively gathering spot for students, academics, and the public to enjoy conversation, creativity, and great food.
Alan Tham, Vice President of Food & Beverage at Interhill Hospitality, highlighted that the café represents a new kind of campus space.
“Good food makes room for good ideas,” he stated.
He emphasized that the space is built for students to refuel between classes, wind down, or find a quiet corner for a study sprint.
The grand opening was officiated by Sarawak’s Minister of Transport, Yang Berhormat Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.
He noted that spaces like the Faculty of Makan Curtin University Malaysia play a crucial role in shaping a holistic student experience.
During the launch, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin performed the final stroke on a permanent mural created by Malaysian artist Andharas, which reflects themes of growth and connection.
The café is perfectly equipped for students. It features strong Wi-Fi connectivity, ample power outlets, and flexible seating.
The student-friendly menu includes local favorites such as Sarawak Kolok Mee, Nasi Lemak Special, and Marudi Fried Kueh Tiaw, alongside Japanese dishes like Chicken Katsu Curry and Gyudon.
Freshly baked goods and barista-crafted beverages are also available.
