Marudi Bridge Inaugurated, hotel, community hall and more coming next
The Marudi Bridge was officially inaugurated today, January 17, Premier Sarawak by Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
According to a report by TVS, the construction of the bridge, which spanned 32 months, began on October 20, 2022, and was completed on November 10, 2024.
This puts the bridge construction ahead of its scheduled completion date of September 5, 2025, by nine months.
This 650-meter-long bridge across the Batang Baram River not only facilitates movement between Marudi and Miri but also serves as a catalyst for socioeconomic development in the region.
The Marudi Bridge, constructed alongside an 800-meter road built to JKR R5 standards, supports speeds of up to 80 km/h, thus ending the residents’ dependence on ferry services.
This development speeds up travel times, reduces reliance on water transport, improves access to essential services like education and healthcare, and stimulates the local economy.
This project is also part of a broader infrastructure network connecting major regions such as Miri, Marudi, Limbang, Lawas, Mulu, and neighboring countries Brunei and Sabah.
The bridge was accessible to public at the end of last year.
More projects approved for Marudi
TVS also reported that State Assemblyman for Marudi, Datuk Dr. Penguang Manggil, as saying that the Premier has also approved several other projects for Marudi.
These projects include the extension of the Marudi waterfront, the construction of a hotel in Marudi, a community hall in Tinjar, and the Beluru District Office building.
