BAS.MY in Kota Kinabalu: A New Era for Sabah Public Transport
BAS.MY Kota Kinabalu is part of Malaysia’s nationwide Stage Bus Service Transformation programme introduced by the Ministry of Transport to modernise public transportation in secondary cities.
Before BAS.MY, Kota Kinabalu relied heavily on older minibuses and irregular bus operations with inconsistent schedules.
The new network introduces fixed routes, modern air-conditioned buses, cashless payments and scheduled services. Initially launched in stages between 2025 and 2026, the Kota Kinabalu system now covers major areas including Likas, Inanam, Menggatal, Penampang, Putatan, Sembulan, KKIA, UMS and the city centre through routes S01 to S08, making it Sabah’s largest modern urban bus transformation initiative to date.
