Immigration Department issues guidelines for expired Sarawak travel pass
The Sarawak Immigration Department has issued a guidelines for expired Sarawak travel pass.
The guideline allows all foreigners and Malaysians from Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah whose social visit or travel passes expired from Jan 1, 2020 to 14 working days after the Movement Control Order (MCO) is lifted, to leave Sarawak without the need to apply for an extension from the Immigration Department.
This means those already planning to leave Sarawak, but have their social visit or travel passes expired, do not need to renew their respective passes for as long as they leave Sarawak within 14 days after the MCO is ended.
It was further elaborated by the Sarawak Immigration Department director Datu Ken Leben that those who intend to remain in Sarawak after 14 days of the ending of MCO would however need to apply for an extension from the department.
Those intending to apply for an extension need to make an appointment by using the Online Appointment System (STO) at www.sto.imi.gov.my from May 8. Ken stressed that only customers who had made an appointment would be entertained, unless they were applying for the International Malaysia Passport.
“For long-term social visit pass holders who have been in Sarawak from Feb 1, 2020 until the MCO is lifted, an extension can be made at the Immigration Office.
“All appointments for immigration counter services in the Visa, Pass and Permit Divisions, Expatriate and Foreign Workers Division are required to use the STO” said Ken in a statement published by Borneo Post.
Malaysians wanting to renew or make their passport do not have to make an appointment and can walk-in to the Immigration Passport Division.
“For matters related to the Security and Passport Division, an appointment is not required and the public may come directly to the immigration counter but subject to the Covid-19 Management Guidelines in Malaysia No.5/2020,” he said.
Immigration service counters at Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) Kuching, UTC Sibu and UTC Miri will start their operations from May 12, subject to further instruction from the Ministry of Finance.
The department will observe social distancing measures during the 12 May opening which includes asking customers to use hand of sanitizer before dealing with the immigration officer.
