Friends in Concert to showcase award-winning concert and marching bands

Multiple award-winning concert and marching bands are set to perform in a special concert this coming 10 December 2022, at Tan Sri William Tan Auditorium in SMK St. Joseph from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.

Themed “Friends in Concert”, the event will feature St. Joseph’s School Marching Band, St. Joseph’s Family of Schools Concert, St. Teresa’s School Concert and Sri Kuala Lumpur International School Wind Orchestra.

In addition, this concert will also feature a guest conductor Maestro Mitsuo Nonami from Japan.

Music Director Wilson Tan, said that the students involved are very excited to be able to perform again after the band activities and rehearsals were stopped for more than 2 years during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He also said that some students who join the band program in all three schools mostly has no prior musical background, and that they only started learning music and instruments after joining the band program.

The concert will feature 4 different school bands who are collaborating to make this concert a success.

Concert and marching bands performers

Headlining would be the St. Joseph’s School Marching Band which had won multiple state champions, which include winnings at national championships and overseas championships in countries such as Italy, Germany and USA.

Also performing will be St. Joseph’s Family of Schools Concert Band which was newly formed in 2017.

This band, although new, had also won multiple awards locally and internationally with the most recent, being crowned champions in the Malaysia International Virtual Band Championships (MIVBC) in the Concert Band Category (2021) and Percussion Ensemble Category (2022).

Another band, St. Teresa’s School Concert Band was also awarded the Gold Award in the Malaysia International Virtual Band Championships (MIVBC) 2021.

Joining them from Kuala Lumpur, would be the Sri Kuala Lumpur International School Wind Orchestra.

This orchestra won the Gold Award in the Taoyuan International Band Competition and Silver Award in the Singapore International Band Festival.

They have also toured and performed in many countries such as China, Australia and South Korea.

Tickets 

All tickets had been sold out within a week, but Tan had promised that there are plans to organize future concerts.
