Batik Air launch direct daily Kuching to Subang flights

Batik Air has officially launched its highly anticipated daily direct flights between Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (Subang SZB) and Kuching International Airport (KCH).

The direct flight marks a significant enhancement in air connectivity between Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak.

The inaugural flight, OD1612, touched down in Kuching on July 28, 2025, to a warm reception, carrying 133 passengers – a strong indicator of demand for this new link.

BERNAMA reports that the launch of this route is a strategic move by Batik Air to expand its presence at Subang, positioning it as a dynamic city airport hub.

The airline also commenced daily flights to Bangkok Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) on the same day, showcasing its commitment to a growing regional network. With the addition of Kuching, Batik Air now serves five key destinations from Subang, including Penang, Kota Bharu, and Kota Kinabalu, offering travelers more choices and greater convenience.

DayakDaily reported that Sarawak’s Minister for Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, lauded the new service, emphasizing its importance in boosting tourism and economic growth for the state.

He expressed hope that Batik Air would consider further expanding its international routes directly from Sarawak to major cities like Shenzhen, Guangzhou, or even Korea, potentially making it the first airline to offer such direct international connections from the state.

The Subang-Kuching route, operated by a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, offers a comfortable travel experience with dual-class cabins (Economy and Business Class).

Batik Air flights for the Kuching – Subang route are offered daily.

Benefits of flying to Subang

Flying to Subang Airport (SZB) offers significant benefits, primarily its closer proximity to Kuala Lumpur city centre compared to KLIA.

This means shorter travel times (often 25-45 minutes by car/Grab) and lower taxi fares, making it ideal for time-sensitive business travelers and those seeking convenience.

Its smaller size provides a more relaxed and efficient travel experience, with quicker check-in, security clearance, and baggage claim.

The ongoing Subang Airport Regeneration Plan (SARP) aims to enhance facilities further and reintroduce limited jet operations, increasing connectivity and passenger capacity, ultimately benefiting both domestic and regional travelers with a fuss-free city airport option.
