New massive mural coming up in Padungan Street

A massive new mural is in the making at Padungan Street, specifically at Lorong 6 of the street.

Based on an Instagram story shared by Sarawakian mural artist Leonard Siaw, it is his latest mural in Kuching City.

The unfinished mural which is likely only a third completed, shows an unknown elderly man focusing on something.

Based on Leonard’s previous work within the street, it is likely that this mural will refer to a popular activity or person in the within Padungan street. It is also in accordance to his style which is deeply rooted in the cultures, stories, and history of a certain place.

Nonetheless, once completed, this mural will join other three murals which had been completed prior to this in the street.

These murals are the famous ‘Liang Teh’ (herbal tea) mural nearby Tun Jugah Mall, the mural of the late Goh Beng Choo, revered for her ‘ang ku kueh’ at Lorong 16, and the mural of the exhilarating horse-racing scene, complete with the jockeys at Lorong 12.

Aside from painting on Padungan Street, Leonard had also painted murals in China Street, Jalan Wawsan, Ewe Hai Street and the Kota Padawan Mall.

It is worth to note the increasing number of murals in Padungan Street started back in 2022.
