SUARA Workshop now open for registration

Vocal workshop now inviting interested individual/groups to join their event

The the Kuching Choral Society in collaboration with the Young Choral Academy will be organising “SUARA” – Sarawak Choir Vocal Technique’s Workshop.

The worskshop is schedule to take place from April 19th to 21st, 2024 at i-CATS University College in Kuching, and is poised to revolutionize the choral music landscape in the region.

The primary objective of the “SUARA” workshop is to unite music educators, student conductors, choir leaders, and vocal enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds across Sarawak.

According to a statement from the organizers, the event will allow participants to embark on a journey to enhance the choral music quality in Kuching, fostering a deeper understanding of vocal techniques and refining conducting skills.

Aside from that, this upcoming event aims to further refine the skills of choir conductors, educators, and enthusiasts as it will feature a comprehensive range of topics including vocal techniques, clinics, masterclasses, and a concert, spanning three days of immersive learning experiences.

Facilitating this transformative event are two esteemed personalities in the realm of choral and vocal music Mak Chi Hoe and Wendy Yong.

Mak Chi Hoe, an award-winning choral conductor, singer, adjudicator, and clinician, brings a wealth of experience to the workshop.

With accolades spanning international performances and educational endeavors, Mak Chi Hoe’s expertise promises to enrich participants’ understanding of choral vocal techniques and choral dynamics.

Wendy Yong on the other hand is a renowned soprano hailing from Kuching, Sarawak.  She will also lend her expertise to the workshop bringing the unique perspective of international performances to the art of solo singing.

Participants can anticipate a dynamic blend of lectures, interactive sessions, and practical demonstrations, culminating in a concert featuring Mak Chi Hoe, Wendy Yong, the award-winning SJPS Chamber Choir, the KCS Choir conducted by Mr. Benedict JC Lo, and the You Ran Ladies Ensemble conducted by Ms. Wong Yung Fung.
