Kuching North cancels Ramadan Bazaars for 2021
The excitement of having the Ramadan Bazaars again this year was short lived after the Kuching North City Council (DBKU) decided that had to cancel all three bazaars within their jurisdiction again this year.
In a brief statement, the city council said that the move was in view of the increasing number of Covid-19 infections, and the increased risk of being in close contact towards those infected shall the bazaar continue.
The council said that such situation would hamper all efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19 which had been done so far.
“DBKU has decided to not organize any Ramadan Bazaars in Satok, Semarak and Sukma Ria for 2021” the statement said.
“The risk of having close contact is huge and it will likely cause the spread of Covid-19, and hence hinder all efforts done to curb the pandemic effectively. ” it added.
Prior to this, DBKU had already announced they will be allowing Ramadan Bazaars in three areas within its jurisdiction after such activity took a hiatus last year to help curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
However, this latest announcement meant that such bazaars will not proceed again this year.
If you however still want to enjoy Ramadan buffets, local restaurants and hotels are offering early bird promotions for such events. You can check their promotions for this 2021 Ramadan here.
