Kuching North announces cancellation of Ramadan Bazaars

Kuching North City Council (DBKU) today announced that their Ramadan Bazaars would be canceled.

A statement by the city council said that the cancellation was to avoid the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

The council also informed the 144 stall owners whom had paid for their stalls will received refunds for Ramadan stall bookings.

These traders will however need to contact DBKU and provide Ramadan Bazaar rental payment receipt, and a copy of their bank account book (usually the first page of the book which has details of the account holder name and account number) to the respective DBKU officers in-charge of the refund process.

DBKU also ask traders interested to operate Ramadan Bazaars to turn to online delivery and services like GRAB Food and Food Panda to sell their products.

Previously Kuching South Municipal Council (MBKS) had also canceled their Ramadan Bazaar for this year due to the Covid-19 outbreak, and the Sarawak government had also made similar announcement.

Ramadhan Bazaars are a popular annual social event among Kuching people in general.

The bazaars would usually host hundreds of stalls selling a variety of food and drinks which are opened up hours before Muslims break fast during the fasting month of Ramadan.

During this bazaars, thousands throng the area with social distancing rarely observed.

DBKU organizesquite a few Ramadan Bazaars in Kuching, usually located in Satok, Kubah Ria and Semarak.
