Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has said that works to upgrade Mile 10 to 15 of Kuching-Serian Road is expected to start sometime this year.
According to Fadillah, Public Works Department (JKR) needs to pick a contractor for the work and the project is now in the tender awarding process. The project is estimated to cost RM80 million as it will involve land compensation and relocation of utilities.
The upgrade is slated to take 2 years, but Fadillah reckons that relocation and compensation issues might cause the project to be delayed further.
The upgrade of the 5 miles stretch has been long awaited by motorist as it is the only missing link of dual-carriage way from Kuching to Serian.
