Kota Kinabalu based SESB now known as Sabah Electricity

Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) will now only be known as Sabah Electricity with the Kota Kinabalu based energy company also introducing a new logo which incorporates the outline of Mount Kinabalu.

According to Borneo Post, in addition to the simplified name and logo, Sabah Electricity also introduced a new tagline “Energising Our Future.”

The previous motto was “Your Light, Our Pride.”

Borneo Post reported Sabah Electricity chief executive officer Ir Ts Mohd Yaakob Jaafar as saying that the rebranding exercise goes beyond just the logo, motto and name with the company but involves the image and identity of the company.

The Vibes reported Sabah Electricity Chairman Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau as saying that the rebranding reflects global shift in the power generation industry, and that the rebranding includes improvements to Sabah Electricity’s customer service unit.

According to Sabah Electricity’s website, the new logo has two main shapes which is the Lightning element, and ‘Electric Blue’.

The Lightning element incorporated into the design indicates the energy industry with the shape mimicing the iconic Mount Kinabalu to show the unique position of Sabah Electricity in Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

This Electric Blue shade gives a fresh and modern outlook for the brand, while the bright Mountain Green indicates Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) compliance.

In addition to that, the two arrow-like shapes pointing upwards symbolises Mount Kinabalu and the Crocker range, and it also show the progressive stance of Sabah Electricity, with more than one of these arrows representiong the togetherness needed to advance Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

Sabah Electricity’s major shareholder is West Malaysian company Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) with 20% ownership of the company owned by the Sabah State Government.

Prior to being Sabah Electricity, the company was known as North Borneo Electricity Board before Malaysia was formed, and renamed to Sabah Electricity Board in 1963.

On 1 September 1998, Sabah Electricity Board was privatised and became Sabah Electricity Sdn. Bhd (SESB).
