Desa Wira detention pond begins construction to reduce floods
Construction of a third detention pond in Desa Wira, Batu Kawa has officially begun.
Based on Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian’s social media posting, the detention pond cost RM14.5 million.
Dr Sim in his posting said construction works also involved upgrading and improvement of the existing internal drainage which includes culverts at Kampung Sinar Budi Baru.
The Deputy Premier also clarified that this “Dry” retention pond occupies about 5 acres of land which equal 60 landed individual houses or 250 strata apartments.
He elaborated that the pond has a capacity to hold more than 30,000m3 of water, in which this volume is equivalent of 12,000 water truck.
Borneo Post reported that the Desa Wira detention pond is expected to be completed within 20 months.
The Desa Wira detention pond is expected to be completed by July 24, 2025.
Once completed, the pond will enhance the efficiency of the local drainage system, directly reducing floods in the area.
Beside the new detention pond, there is another two other detention ponds being constructed in Batu Kawa, namely at MJC New Township and another at Pine Square commercial area.
The MJC New Township detention pond is expected to be completed by May 2026, while the one in Pine Square is schedule for completion in Nov 2026.
The projects cost RM19.88 million, and RM22.5 million respectively.
