Bus service linking Kuching-Singkawang to begin in 2024

Route will allow direct connectivity between both cities

There would soon be a bus service directly plying the Kuching-Singkawang route next year.

Based on a report by UKAS, the new route will see busses from both cities reaching the Singkawang borders first before an uninterrupted service is started later on.

This was also reported by TVS which shared that busses will service the border of Singkawang-Kuching from December, 1, 2023.

News reports also quoted Sarawak Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin as informing the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Monday (Nov 27) that such service will see two public busses being used for the route.

The service will further be expanded in the future from time to time.

Media reports also reported that the bus service is expected to further enhance relationships and ties between the people of both cities in areas such as tourism, business and culture.

Singkawang is a city located in the province of West Kalimantan and is about 145 kilometres north of Pontianak.

The area is most notable for chinese temples and known also as the city of chinese maidens.

A bus ride travel site rome2rio, said that the Kuching-Singkawang journey would take about 14 hours and 48 minutes as it will need to go to Pontianak first, with Google Maps showing a direct journey taking about 6 hours by car.
