A new Covid-19 cluster has been detected and announced in Kuching.

The Health Ministry today named Taman BDC housing area in Kuching as being the latest sub-cluster linked to the Masjid Jamek Sri Petaling tabligh gathering.

According to Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, some 37 people infected so far.

“The index case in this cluster had attended the tabligh gathering and infected family members, colleagues and several people at a local mosque.

The infections in the cluster span three generations, ” said Dr Noor Hisham at the ministry’s daily Covid-19 press conference.

It is understood that the index case tested positive for the disease on March 8.

The new cluster is an addition to several other Covid-19 clusters based in Kuching, including the church gathering cluster, the Italy person-under-investigation (PUI) cluster and the healthcare worker cluster.

DayakDaily reported that the Sarawak Disaster Management Comitee in their daily press conference stated that BDC had Covid-19 cases before this but it wasn’t classified as a new cluster until today.
