Miri City Earns Five-Star Rating in 2026 Technical Audit Assessment

Miri City Council (MCC) has achieved a five-star rating under the 2026 Technical Audit Star Rating Programme (Program Penarafan Bintang Audit Teknikal, PBAT) conducted by the Local Government Department (Jabatan Kerajaan Tempatan, JKT).

The recognition places Miri among the local authorities that achieved the highest rating in the 2026 assessment, reflecting the council’s performance in areas covered by the technical audit programme.

The PBAT assessment is part of the Local Government Department’s performance monitoring framework, with local authorities evaluated on their compliance, management practices and effectiveness in delivering services within their respective areas.

The latest five-star achievement adds to Miri City Council’s record of recognition for its administration and service delivery.

MCC had previously received a five-star rating in an earlier federal local authority assessment, scoring 94.58 points and ranking second among Sarawak’s local authorities in the assessment conducted for 2022.

At the time, Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang praised the council’s management and staff for the achievement.

The 2026 PBAT recognition therefore represents another indication of the council’s continuing efforts to strengthen local government administration and the delivery of municipal services.

Miri City Council is responsible for managing the development and administration of Miri, which was officially granted city status on 20 May 2005. The council’s jurisdiction covers about 5,205.43 square kilometres, including the Bario sub-district.

Aside from Miri City Council, the Commision of the City of Kuching North (DBKU) also gained the five star award in the same programme.
