Kuching to Host Over 200 Global Athletes for DBKU International X-Games 2026

Over 200 international and local extreme sports athletes are set to converge at the Kuching Waterfront from April 8 to 12 for the highly anticipated DBKU International X-Games 2026.

Organized by the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) under the theme Unleash the Action, the five-day event aims to solidify the city’s growing reputation as a premier regional hub for extreme sports and youth development.

Building upon the success of its previous iterations, the 2026 games will introduce a broader range of competitive categories, blending traditional urban sports with aquatic events.

Expanding the Roster: Land and Water Disciplines

The 2026 edition promises eight major competitive disciplines spanning across both Junior (Under 15) and Open categories.

The traditional land-based events will feature high-level competitions in aggressive rollerblading, BMX flatland, BMX stunt, skateboarding, breakdancing, 3X3 street basketball, and pickleball.

In a major development for this year’s festival, organizers have officially reintroduced water sports to the itinerary.

The Sarawak River will serve as the battleground for high-speed jet skiing competitions, adding an aquatic dimension that is expected to draw significant crowds along the waterfront.

International Participation and Local Development

The event has successfully attracted a diverse roster of international talent.

Competitors from France, South Africa, Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand are confirmed to participate, going head-to-head with elite athletes from Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.

The Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, noted that the event serves a dual purpose: boosting sports tourism and fostering local talent.

The games are strategically designed to provide a high-level platform for local Sarawakian athletes to test their mettle and exchange technical skills with world-class international professionals.

Community Engagement and the Canroll Pro Festival

Beyond the professional competitions, the DBKU International X-Games 2026 is heavily focused on community engagement.

The event is held in strategic collaboration with the Canroll Pro Urban Sports Festival to ensure public accessibility and grassroots development.

Kuching North City Mayor Dato Haji Hilmy bin Haji Othman emphasized the city’s commitment to promoting dynamic and active lifestyles among the youth.

To support this, the festival will host interactive skateboarding and rollerblading workshops open to the public.

In addition to both events, the waterfront will also feature live music performances, extensive local food and beverage stalls, and dedicated ‘youthpreneur’ zones, providing young local entrepreneurs a valuable platform to market their goods during the international event.
