The Sejingkat Bridge is scheduled to open to the public on October 5, 2026, improving road connectivity between Kuching and Samarahan.
The 1.28-kilometre bridge, which crosses the Sarawak River, is expected to provide motorists with an alternative route between Sejingkat in Kuching and Tanjung Bako in Samarahan.
Its opening is anticipated to improve traffic movement, particularly for motorists travelling from Kota Samarahan and surrounding coastal areas towards Demak Laut and Petra Jaya without having to pass through Kuching city centre.
RM365.7 million infrastructure project
The Sejingkat Bridge is part of the Sarawak Second Trunk Road development programme and represents an investment of approximately RM365.74 million, fully funded by the Sarawak Government.
The project includes the construction of the main bridge, new approach roads measuring approximately 220 metres at Tanjung Bako and 210 metres at Sejingkat, as well as upgrading and widening existing roads on both sides.
According to previous reports, the project was already 94 per cent complete in July 2026, with construction progressing slightly
Designed to accommodate 15,000 vehicles daily
Built according to Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) R5 standards, the bridge features a dual two-lane carriageway designed to support growing traffic demand.
Its main structure incorporates a cable-stayed design comprising three spans measuring 200 metres, 400 metres and 200 metres respectively.
The bridge also features six prestressed concrete T-girder spans, each measuring 40 metres, along its approach sections.
Once operational, the bridge is expected to accommodate approximately 15,000 vehicles daily, providing additional capacity for motorists travelling between Kuching, Samarahan and surrounding coastal communities.
