Iftar Perdana 2.0 Kuching: 5,000 Gather for Food, Glamping & Unity at the Kuching Waterfront

The scenic Kuching Waterfront at Pangkalan Sapi transformed into a vibrant hub of unity and spiritual reflection as approximately 5,000 attendees gathered for the highly anticipated Iftar Perdana 2.0 Kuching.
Held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, this magnificent community event was collaboratively organized by the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) and the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan Al-Mubarak.
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the city’s iconic landmarks, the gathering proved to be more than just a massive breaking-of-fast session.

More than an iftar event
It beautifully succeeded in bringing together a diverse community from various backgrounds, fostering an incredible atmosphere filled with joy, harmony, and a deep sense of togetherness that perfectly encapsulates the welcoming spirit of Sarawak.
A multitude of engaging activities were meticulously arranged to enliven the Iftar Perdana 2.0 Kuching, ensuring an unforgettable evening for attendees of all ages.
Highlighting the family-friendly nature of the gathering, a delightful coloring contest was held for children, filling the air with youthful excitement and vibrant creativity before dusk.
The absolute core of the event, however, revolved around the generous distribution of delicious, traditional Ramadan delicacies.
Visitors were treated to an incredible feast of local favorites, with organizers and volunteers handing out thousands of portions of comforting bubur lambuk, spicy and savory bubur pedas, and the rich, culturally significant bubur Asyura.
Complementing these hearty porridges were an assortment of traditional sweet treats, known locally as kuih-muih, alongside specially prepared iftar packs, ensuring absolutely everyone had a fulfilling meal to break their fast together as the sun beautifully set over the Sarawak River.

Ramadan Glamping
Adding a fresh and exciting twist to the traditional breaking of fast, this year’s organizers introduced an exclusive Ramadan Glamping experience scattered around the event area.
This highly innovative concept provided visitors with a unique and aesthetically pleasing way to enjoy their meals.
Families and groups of friends could relax in comfortably styled tents while taking in the serene river breeze, elevating the standard picnic style into a memorable, comfortable, and picturesque evening by the water.

Sponsors and organizers
The overwhelming success of the Iftar Perdana 2.0 Kuching was made possible through the robust support and immense generosity of various corporate sponsors and local organizations.
The Sarawak Islamic Council contributed massively by providing 5,000 iftar packs and large quantities of bubur Asyura. Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad stepped up as the largest dinner sponsor, also supplying 3,000 pieces of kuih-muih and refreshing beverages.
Furthermore, AFFIN Bank and Mahashafi Restaurant generously sponsored the evening’s dinner, while PBB Batu Lintang and Maggi Malaysia contributed 1,000 packs of bubur pedas and bubur lambuk respectively.
The seamless execution of the night was also credited to the strategic collaboration with Grit Event Management and Masjid India Bandar Kuching.
