Kuching’s Hui Sing Park is set to gain a new RM1.5 million single-storey community centre, with construction expected to conclude by January 20, 2026.
According to articles by Borneo Post and DayakDaily, this initiative by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) aims to foster inclusivity, encourage healthy lifestyles, and provide a versatile space for community gatherings.
Designed by INTODESIGN Lab and PDC Design Group Sdn Bhd, the centre will serve as a sheltered and functional venue within the park, facilitating a wide array of activities including community programmes, health and wellness activities, workshops, and cultural events.
Among the added facilities is a small, air-conditioned library for children, a semi-outdoor sheltered space for the elderly, a covered area for Tai Chi practitioners, as well as a dedicate space for table tennis.
Interestingly, the community centre will only take 2.5 per cent of the park with only one small palm tree expected to be removed.
It is envisioned as a safe and engaging environment for residents of all ages, offering a comfortable space for various events, especially during adverse weather conditions.
Dato Wee Hong Seng, Mayor of Kuching South, in his social media post said that the development aligns with MBKS’s broader strategy to revitalize public parks and integrate them into a city-wide green network, supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals related to health, sustainable cities, and climate action.
While the new center will be a significant addition, the park already features existing facilities such as a jogging track, a well-equipped playground, public toilets, walking paths, outdoor gym equipment, and a reflexology path, enhancing its appeal as a recreational hub for the local community.
