35 extra flights to Kuching to avoid ‘London flight pricing’

The Sarawak government has announced that there will be more flights made available for those intending to return home.

There will be a total of 307 new flights to Sarawak, with 35 of them dedicated to fly into Kuching.

The announcement was made by The Ministry of Transport Sarawak.

According to the press release, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has approved the new flights and that all airlines need to confirm their flight schedules.

The planned flights are seen below.

Anyway, Malaysia Airlines will likely give even more value for those travelling with cargo.

Avoiding London pricing

There has been a huge complaint by Sarawakians this week about the soaring prices of airline tickets between West Malaysia and Sarawak.

Flight prices were dubbed ‘London prices’ as a flight back to Sarawak could match or even be more expensive than flights to London.

Many felt prices need to be reduced as Sarawak is not only going for state polls on 18 December 2021, but also is the region which celebrates Christmas the most.

Prior to the pandemic, a return flight for peak season would hardly hit RM1,000 but this time around a one way ticket from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching was costing over RM1,000.

The high ticket prices hit all airlines serving Sarawak destinations.

Glad to see more flights

It is of course good to see more flights flying to Kuching. The increased number of flights will definitely have a positive impact on the prices of tickets, making it more affordable.

That said, it is hoped that the prices will go further down to pre-pandemic days, or lower than that.
