World’s 1st Hydrogen powered ART to begin construction in Kuching this Sept

The world’s first Hydrogen powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) will begin construction in Kuching this coming September.

The big news was announced by Sarawak Metro director Corporate Communication, SEED Programme and Bumiputera Relations, Alexius Barieng, was quoted by local dailies as saying that the very first hydrogen powered ART vehicle will be visible to Kuchingnites in 2023.

Despite that, rides would only happen in the final quarter of 2025 with local dailies also quoting Alexius as saying his company expects the Kuching railway project to be completed in 2027.

The Kuching ART project involves the construction of two 52.6km lines with Sarawak Metro tasked with implementing the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project.

KUTS aims to minimise traffic congestion along the city’s roads, while spurring productivity and economic growth.
