Sarawak Energy Marathon 2026 set for August with RM201K prize pool

The highly anticipated Sarawak Energy Marathon is set to make its grand return on August 9, 2026.

This comes Following a major rebranding effort, with the flagship event promising an unmatched racing experience, stronger participation, and a significantly expanded prize pool that is already turning heads in the regional running community.

As reported by the New Sarawak Tribune, the event – now in its thrilling 11th edition – has evolved from the familiar Sarawak Energy Isthmus Run into a premier international marathon, solidifying its place on the global sporting map.

Bigger Stakes and Surging Registrations

One of the biggest draws for this year’s marathon is the incredibly lucrative prize pool.

According to Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, the total prize money has been bumped up from RM185,000 last year to a staggering RM201,000.

The champions of both the Men’s and Women’s Open Full Marathon categories will each walk away with a handsome RM15,000 reward.

Despite the ballooning prize pool, the registration fees remain refreshingly affordable. In fact, they are among the lowest for a full marathon in the region, keeping the event highly accessible.

This winning formula is evident in the turnout: over 5,700 runners from Malaysia and across the globe have already registered, and organizers expect that number to hit 7,000 before registration officially closes on June 30, 2026.

The Scenic Kuching Route & Race Categories

The Sarawak Energy Marathon features four main categories:

  • 42km Full Marathon (Flag-off at 1:00 AM)
  • 21km Half Marathon * 10km Competitive Run * 5km Fun Run

All races will begin and end at the Menara Sarawak Energy at the Kuching Isthmus.

Running for a Cause

Beyond personal fitness and fierce competition, the Sarawak Energy Marathon is deeply rooted in philanthropy.

Reflecting Sarawak Energy’s corporate social responsibility commitment, 100% of the registration fees will be channelled directly to selected charitable and environmental organisations across the state.

Last year’s event successfully raised an impressive RM360,000, which was distributed among 12 different charities in Sarawak.
