The Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing Sky Lounge is the best place to chill and enjoy a breathtaking view of Kuching City.
Yes, the name itself is quite a handful, so I’ll just call it the Astana Wing Sky Lounge from now on.
Indeed, there’s plenty of high rise buildings in Kuching with an amazing aerial view of the city itself.
However not many are open to the general public like the Astana Wing Sky Lounge which is open from 10AM to 1AM daily.
It is also interesting to note that Astana Wing Sky Lounge is the highest sky lounge in East Malaysia.
On top of that, it is also one of the few sky lounges that has an open balcony, allowing you to take photos without having glass walls interfering the shot.
Anyway, during a good sunny day, I managed to capture this fantastic aerial view of Kuching City below using my smartphone, the Huawei P20 Pro.
At night, as rained drenched Kuching, my Huawei P20 Pro also captured an amazing sight of the city as you can see below. Both photos are unedited and unfiltered.
I’ve yet to have time to catch the sunset of the city from the Astana Wing Sky Lounge. However I’ve the photo below by the Riverside Majestic Hotel, shows it is indeed breathtaking.
PRICES OF FOOD AT THE ASTANA WING SKY LOUNGE
Like any lounge, food and drinks are also served at the Sky Lounge Astana Wing.
Interestly, prices of food and beverages at the Astana Wing Sky Lounge is similar to any other lounges operated by the Riverside Majestic Hotel.
As I was told, the prices of food and beverages is basically a ‘cut and paste’ thing from menu prices at other lounges operated and owned by the hotel.
I find this very interesting and perhaps unbelievable because usually a place like the the astana Wing Sky Lounge, which offers such a fantastic aerial view of Kuching City, would charge higher.
But that’s not the case here, and for that I am pretty glad.
Also, soft drinks, draft beer, wine and liquor and of course free WiFi is also available at the lounge, which is pretty great.
WHERE IS THE ASTANA WING SKY LOUNGE?
As I mentioned previously, the Sky Lounge is located within the Astana Wing of the Riverside Majestic Hotel at precisely the 17th floor.
Getting here isn’t difficult. Just follow the Google Map below, and hit number 17 on the elevator to reach the Sky Lounge.
Just in case you are wondering, going to the Sky Lounge is pretty straight forward with the entrance practically labelled for those unsure where to go.
For those driving, parking is available at the adjoining Riverside Shopping Complex.

The Riverside Majestic Hotel Kuching is ‘sort of’ the biggest hotel in Kuching City, boasting a total of 801 rooms. The total number of rooms include those available in all three hotels operated and owned by the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) in the city center which include both the Riverside Majestic Hotel Puteri Wing, the Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing, and Grand Margherita Hotel.
I am using the term ‘sort of’ because Grand Margherita Hotel does have separate branding if compared to the Riverside Majestic Hotel, and even the Astana Wing, but they are operated by the same people and managers.
For more clarification, Grand Margherita Hotel has 288 rooms, Riverside Majestic Hotel has 241 rooms, and the Astana Wing has 272 rooms.
The Astana Wing is the most recent addition of the three.
In terms of location, all three hotels are listed in our Kuching Location Hotel Guide as hotels located in the center of the city. This basically means that they enjoy prime location in Kuching, and is favoured by many due to their strategic location.
All three hotels are highly regarded in terms of hospitality according to travel sites like TripAdvisor, Booking.com and Agoda.
The three hotels have ample amenities although parking can be slightly limited as they share parking space with nearby malls.
Anyway, the Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing in particular is very modern with prices that aren’t that expensive either.
I am also made to understand most of the rooms facing the Sarawak river in this hotel enjoys the best aerial view of Kuching City.
Speaking of that, such view is huge plus if you were to stay in Kuching City because I always believed that Kuching has one of the most romantic sunsets ever.
