Sheraton Kota Kinabalu officially opens with hotel being one of the tallest structure in Borneo

Sheraton Kota Kinabalu was officially unveiled on December 29, 2025, marking a significant addition to the hospitality scene in Sabah’s capital.
The opening of the Sheraton Kota Kinabalu marks a landmark moment for Sabah’s tourism industry with the hotel being one of the tallest structures on the island of Borneo.
This 307-room hotel stands as a modern beacon in the Kota Kinabalu’s city’s skyline ans is a flagship for Sheraton’s new global design vision, which emphasizes creating a sense of community and belonging for both international travelers and the local population.
Strategically located in the heart of “KK,” the hotel offers guests unparalleled access to the city’s vibrant culture while providing breathtaking views of the South China Sea and the majestic Mount Kinabalu.
Its design philosophy draws inspiration from the natural beauty of Sabah, blending contemporary elegance with subtle local touches.

This creates an atmosphere that feels both globally sophisticated and deeply rooted in its Bornean surroundings.
At the core of the hotel is a reimagined lobby designed to function as a public square. The space features the “Community Table,” a purpose-built workspace equipped with integrated power and wireless charging to support the needs of modern professionals.
For those requiring more privacy, the lobby also includes soundproof booths, making it a versatile hub for collaboration, socializing, or quiet productivity throughout the day.

The culinary offerings at Sheraton Kota Kinabalu are designed to be as diverse as the city itself. Guests can enjoy international flavors at Daily Social, or visit &More by Sheraton, a unique hybrid of a bar, coffee shop, and market.
For a more casual experience, The Burger Box provides gourmet comfort food, while the Rooftop Bar—perched 100 meters above sea level—serves as the city’s premier destination for sunset cocktails and panoramic vistas.
Beyond its social spaces, the hotel provides extensive facilities for wellness and events. The rooftop infinity pool and the Sheraton Spa offer a sanctuary for relaxation, while the fitness center caters to health-conscious travelers.
For celebrations and business, the hotel boasts a 703-square-meter ballroom and a specialized Wedding Pavilion that offers a romantic backdrop of the sea, ensuring that every gathering is memorable.
Sheraton Kota Kinabalu is only the second of its brand in Malaysian Borneo, with the fourth Sheraton brand in Malaysia.
The first Sheraton in East Malaysia was the 378 room Sheraton Kuching which was opened at the heart of Kuching City in 2023. You can read my review of Shereton Kuching here.
