New PPD Bau Complex to have a double-storey multipurpose hall which is inspired by the Bidayuh Baruk

The Bau District Education Office, better known as PPD Bau, will likely feature a multi-purpose hall inspired by the Bidayuh Baruk once its new education complex is completed.

Images of artist impression for the complex show the multi-purpose hall having a roof that resembles the Bidayuh Baruk, a key section of Bidayuh traditional housing and a feature proudly incorporated in a lot of government and cultural buildings in Bau and Serian, which are both Bidayuh heartlands.

The signature building is part of a massive development project recently announced by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Tasik Biru Assemblyman, Datuk Henry.

Henry, on his Facebook page, stated that the new PPD Bau complex is a strategic investment and a crucial catalyst for enhancing the quality of educational service delivery throughout the Bau district.

Once completed, the new facility will provide a more conducive working environment for teachers and administrators, which, in turn, is expected to have a direct positive impact on the learning ecosystem and academic achievement in schools across Bau.

Facilities of Bau PPD Complex

Checks show that the new complex was already tendered out last November (2025).

Although its multi-purpose hall seem to take inspiration from the Bidayuh Baruk, the whole new complex is designed to incorporate modern and contemporary architecture and is planned as a comprehensive education hub.

Key facilities of the new complex include the following.

  • Block A: Double-Storey Multipurpose Hall
  • Block B: Double-Storey Administrative building
  • Block C: Single-Storey Administration Building with Seminar rooms and cafeteria
  • Block D: Double-Storey Apartment quarters with 6 units of quarters
  • Block E: Single-Storey Refuse bin centre and pump house
  • Block G: Single-Storey Guard house

Current PPD Bau office

PPD Bau currently operates from a shared space at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Singai. Previously, the office was housed in Bau District Office, before being moved to shoplots and its own building at Jalan Tasik Biru.

In 2023, PPD Bau moved to SMK Singai while waiting for its new building to be completed.

Once the new complex is completed, the new facility will not only provide better facilities to PPD Bau officers as well as teachers under its jurisdiction, but also allow SMK Singai to maximize the use of the existing school premises, allowing for the enrollment of more students in the future.
