Heavy rain prior to the first day of Borneo Sonic Music Festival (BSMF) 2023 failed to curb what was described by many as an amazing atmosphere at what is dubbed ‘Borneo’s biggest concert’.
The event itself saw no less than 15,000 (might be more) coming to Sarawak Stadium to watch their favourite artist perform live. The stadium itself was built for 40,000 people, which meant there is definely room for more fans in future concerts.
In our recent chat with Steven Au, the founder of the festival, he told us that fans from outside of Sarawak and Malaysia had also bought tickets to attend the event.
He also told us that he did the event because he wanted to bring such events to Sarawak, which is his hometown, noting that he wants to show that even Sarawak can house international concerts like what is happening in West Malaysia.
Comments on Borneo Sonic Music Festival 2023
Anyway, with the event already halfway over with day one done and dusted, videos and social media post in regards to the music festival are slowly surfacing.
Comments, most positive, come with videos taken from the ground, showing the scale of the event and how well it was put together. Indirectly, it had proven many sceptics wrong.
Videos shared on social media also showed how hyped the atmosphere was with many enjoying brilliant performances from the artist such as CL, HYO, Ning Baizura, Fatmaan Scoop and more.

It was also noted some non-Malaysian concert goers saying their love the vibe and how fun and chill Kuching people are at the concert.
Others commended the view they had despite buying the cheaper tier tickets while some also said the sound system was good.

The event also brought a lot of light on Kuching and Sarawak as words, names and topics related to the festival trended online.
A win for Sarawak
That said, the concert has indirectly proven that Kuching, and Sarawak, is ready to host more of such events and concerts.
With West Malaysia constantly having issues pertaining to concerts, this latest development might just shift major concerts of popular artist to Kuching (and Sarawak) in the near future.
Day two and the final day of the festival will be on tonight with Suho and Taeyang headlining and it is hoped more positive vibes will come.
