VivaCity uses thermal scanner to scan shoppers and tenants

It seems VivaCity Megamamall Kuching is ahead other malls when it comes to temperature screening.

The popular lifestyle mall today showed off that is is using thermal scanning machines to scan tenants and visitors to the mall.

The scanner is said to be located at the ground floor of the mall, which is the main entrance to supermarket chain Everrise, outlets of Watson and Guardian, TAKA and many other selected businesses which are allowed to be open for now.

It is not known if other entrances to the megamall are equipped with thermal scanner machines, but these ‘airport like temperature machines’ is definitely a not a common sight in other malls in Kuching just yet.

Shops and businesses operating during this Movement Control Order (MCO) in Kuching had been instructed to carry out temperature checks before guest are allowed into their premises.  This move is to help curb the spread of the Covid-19.

Those with a temperature of a fever (usually over 38.5 degrees) should be denied entry under the law.

Most businesses have opted to use small handheld thermometers, which makes Vivacity Megamall’s use of temperature scanners something new compared to the rest.
