Sarawak has managed to bring in three times more tourist this year as compared to the year before.
According to an article by the Borneo Post, this amount is was stated by Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who stated that Sarawak’s first four month tourist arrival for this year was three times bigger than last year.
According to the article, some 1.2 million non-Sarawakians arrived in Sarawak in the first four months, with 705,000 being foreigners.
This means that foreigners contribute to a significant amount of visitors to Sarawak from January until April 2023.
The arrival of these tourist had contributed RM3.27 billion to Sarawak’s revenue, with the minister expecting Sarawak to achieve four million arrivals by the end of the year.
If that happens, the number of tourist arrivals in Sarawak will exceed the government’s target of three million arrivals for the year.
