Sarawak General Hospital to add field hospital with 108 beds

The Sarawak General Hospital or popularly known as SGH among locals, will boast a field hospital in the first quarter of 2023.

According to portal DayakDaily, this field hospital will bring 108 new beds to the facility.

The portal quoted Sarawak Minister for Public Health, Housing & Local Government, Dr Sim Kui Hian, as saying that the hospital would be built this month.

It is expected to be ready by April 2023 with the exact location of the hospital not mentioned in the report.

Nonetheless, according to Sim, the field hospitals would be utilized to accommodate Covid-19 patients, but it can and will be expanded as infectious disease wards or day care centres.

What is a field hospital?

According to dictionary.com, a field hospital is a temporary hospital set up near a battlefield equipped to provide remedial surgery and post-operative care.

In the case of Sarawak General Hospital, the field hospital will be used for infectious disease wards and day care centres.
