Sarawak Cancer Centre to be built beside Sarawak Heart Centre

Sarawak will be building its very own Sarawak Cencer Centre in the near future after such proposal obtained Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim green light.

According to a report by Malay Mail, the Prime Minister gave his green light after meeting Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg and other state ministers last March 2024.

The new Sarawak Cancer Centre will be located beside the Sarawak Heart Centre, with construction expected soonest.

The news report also quoted Anwar as saying that the Sarawak Cancer Centre had been brought up in the past, but was not solved due to financial constraints faced by the federal government.

In addition, Dayak Daily reported that recently, both governments had agreed of a new approach to solve such issues with Sarawak paying for the start of the construction, with the Federal Government chipping in later.

Anwar was quoted by the daily as saying that he will bring the matter up to the cabinet to allow such method to be implemented.

Anwar was also quoted as saying that the federal and Sarawak governments had also agreed for Sarawak to start projects if it can be done at much lower costs and at faster speed.

Sarawak had been asking for a dedicated cancer hospital to be built in Sarawak to reduce the treatement cost faced by Sarawakians.

Currently, cancer patients seeking treatment have to fly to West Malaysia to get such treatment.
