Pehin Sri Haji Adenan Haji Satem Highway to Get 794 New LED Street Lights worth RM5.8 million

The Pehin Sri Haji Adenan Haji Satem Highway will undergo a street lighting project aimed at improving lighting conditions along the route, following the official handover of the project by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) today.

The project, valued at RM5.83 million, was handed over to appointed contractor Arena Megasuria Sdn. Bhd. to commence implementation.

The handover ceremony was carried out by the Director of JKR Sarawak and witnessed by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Commission and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman Haji Junaidi, as well as Dato’ Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

794 LED street lights to be installed

The project involves the provision and rehabilitation of the high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems and street lighting along approximately 11.9 kilometres of the Petra Jaya – Rambungan route, particularly the Matang section of the Pehin Sri Haji Adenan Haji Satem Highway.

One of the main components is the construction of an 11kV overhead line, complete with six 50kVA 11/.433kV transformers and associated equipment.

A total of 794 units of 120W LED street lights without arms will also be installed along the route.

The project also includes underground cables, mini pillars, control boxes and other associated equipment required for the street lighting system.

According to the project details, the works are intended to restore electrical supply and street lighting infrastructure affected by vandalism and deterioration of existing facilities.

The project consultant is Perunding Teknikal Consult Sdn. Bhd., while the JKR Kuching Divisional Engineer will serve as the Superintending Officer for the project.

Focus on safety along Pehin Sri Haji Adenan Haji Satem Highway

Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman said the project was important to improve lighting along the route and help reduce the risk of accidents, particularly at night.

He also highlighted vandalism as an issue affecting public infrastructure, noting that damage to facilities had resulted in losses to the government.

He stressed that tackling vandalism should not be the responsibility of the government alone, but requires cooperation from government agencies, local communities and road users.

Fazzrudin also called on the public to play their part in preventing vandalism involving public facilities.

The improved lighting is expected to provide better visibility for motorists and other road users travelling along the Pehin Sri Haji Adenan Haji Satem Highway, particularly after dark.

The project is also expected to improve public safety and provide safer access to residential areas, business premises and community facilities along the route.

It is noted that the street lighting project is scheduled for completion on June 16, 2027.
