Jogging in Kuching

Jogging in Kuching is helped by the availability of massive public places around the city.

While one can technically jog anywhere, the local authorities in Kuching had built recreational parks which are fit for jogging.

Here, I list some of the popular spaces in Kuching for jogging in no particular order.

This list will be updated from time to time if new facilities are made available.  If you know of a new jogging spot in Kuching, don’t hesitate to contact me so that I can update this listing for the convenience of all.

Kuching Waterfront

Kuching Waterfront is not exactly made for jogging, but no one will stop you from doing so on this kilometer long waterfront. It offers a scenic view of the Sarawak river and is also the best place to enjoy Kuching’s enigmatic sunset after your evening jog.  More info on Kuching Waterfront can be read here.

Pustaka Negeri Sarawak

The jogging track surrounds the man made lake at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak.  This is a very popular jogging area in the North of Kuching City.  Parking is easy and there’s trees covering some parts of the jogging path.  The path is flat but scenic. It also has a small playground for kids.

Malaysia-China Friendship Park

The Malaysia-China Friendship Park, known locally as just Friendship Park, is a very popular jogging location in Kuching because it’s well maintained and is centrally located.  The jogging path is flat.  It has a massive man made lake, and parking is easy. It’s also an Insta magnet as there are many monuments and statues which reflect the friendship between both China and Malaysia.

Reservoir Park

The Kuching Reservoir Park is another popular jogging place within the city. Parking here is easy and due to its central location, it is easy to access from anywhere in Kuching City.  There’s a variety of jogging paths available, with some heading uphill and down hill. The paths are well shaded and you can also cross the man made lake by using a bridge.

Jubilee Recreation Ground (Jubilee Park)

Jubilee Recreation Ground or better known as Jubilee Park or MBKS Park is a massive park in the centre of Kuching City.  The jogging paths are flat, and there’s a massive lake in the centre of the park.  The main attraction of Jubilee Park is its playground, which is one of the biggest in any public parks in the city.

Kenyalang Recreational Park

The Kenyalang Recreational Park is also known as the Kenyalang Traffic Park or Traffic Garden.  It’s a small park located within the Kenyalang area and has a flat jogging area. It is one of the few public parks in Kuching which is gated.

  • Operating hours: 6AM – 10PM

Kuching Amphitheater

Located just adjacent to the Reservoir Park is the Kuching Amphitheater. While this place isn’t exactly a park, it is open for public use for jogging and has since been a popular spot for those preferring less routes for jogging. The jogging path is hilly and well shaded but parking is very limited.

Pending Recreational Park

The Pending Recreational park isn’t exactly popular among locals given its location, but that doesn’t mean one can’t jog within its vicinity.  The park is quite big and tree provide good shed for those jogging here.

Darul Hana Islamic Park

The Darul Hana Islamic Park is the latest recreational park in Kuching. It is located within the Petra Jaya area and most parts are still under construction (in 2021).  Jogging here will see you utilize the flat cemented pathways which are well connected to each other with Islamic fused decorations.

Sarawak Botanical Gardens (Wisma Bapa Malaysia Recreational Park)

The Sarawak Botanical Garden, was previously called Wisma Bapa Malaysia Recreational Park (If I am not mistaken).  It is one of the biggest recreational park in Kuching City, and has undergone massive face-lift since it was rebranded as the Sarawak Botanical Garden.  Due to its hidden location, it is not well known but provides an amazing jogging track and is well shaded.

Sama Jaya Forest Park

Sama Jaya Forest Park, also known as Sama Jaya Nature Reserve, is a park under the Sarawak Forestry Department. The jogging path here is well maintained and there’s basic fitness facilities as well. While you jog, you can expect to see wildlife like monkeys so be wary of them. The jogging path is a combination of hills and flat areas.

  • Operating hours: 7AM – 10AM, 12PM – 6PM

Batu Kawa Riverside Park (Wetland Waterfront Park)

The Batu Kawa Riverside Park (Wetland Waterfront Park) is a new jogging spot in the vicinity of greater Kuching.  The park, currently under massive construction (in 2021) stretches for two kilometers with part of the park now already open to the public.  When completed, the park will not only good for jogging but also photography due to its unique decorations and features.
