Government announce flight subsidy during festive season

Flights to Malaysian-Borneo will not exceed RM599 during festive seasons

The Malaysian government recently had agreed to provide one-way flight tickets subsidy for any flights that exceed RM599 from West Malaysia to Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

The subsidy will start during the coming Christmas holidaysand apply for flights from 22 to 24 December 2023.

Under the plan, flights that cost beyond RM599 will be subsidised by the federal goverment, and the subsidy will only apply if the economy flight tickets exceed RM599.

What’s interesing is that this particular subsidy policy will also take effect next year during other festive seasons which include Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Pesta Keamatan, Hari Gawai and Christmas.

The subsidy time frame will be for three days as well.

The subsidised one-way economy class flight ticket however does not include taxes and fees.

Those interested to buy the tickets can do so via AirAsia, Firefly, Malaysia Airlines Berhad and Batik Air effective immediately, but must note that the subsidy only applies to the said travel dates.

Those buying subsidized tickets are however not allowed to change the date and flight of travel with the ticket is only valid for the date of the flight shown on the ticket.

The change of passenger name is also not allowed and all tickets purchased using the flight subsidy are non-refundable.
