A&W hints possible Sarawak return with Miri outlet

Mirians may soon have another familiar fast-food option, with A&W Malaysia appearing to be preparing for a possible return to Sarawak through a new outlet in Miri.

Speculation about the arrival of A&W in Miri has intensified after a recent recruitment listing advertised for an Assistant Restaurant Manager – A&W Miri, Sarawak position.

The position, listed by ASW Malaysia Sdn Bhd, specifically names Miri as its job location and offers a permanent, full-time position with a reported monthly salary of between RM2,600 and RM2,900.

While the recruitment listing provides a strong indication that preparations may be underway, A&W Malaysia has yet to officially announce the location or opening date of a Miri restaurant.

As such, details such as the proposed outlet location, opening date and restaurant format remain unconfirmed although A&W Malaysia did post that Rooty (their mascot) is flying somewhere as he dresses up in what seems like a traditional Orang Ulu costume.

A&W Legacy in Sarawak

This can be considered a very clear hint of a Sarawak return for the American fast-food brand which last opened in Sarawak two decades ago.

Then, the brand had outlets at the Kuching Waterfront, 3rd Mile in Kuching City, and also Bintang Megamall (formerly Bintang Plaza), in Miri.

That said, if the rumour and hints prove Miri will soon house A&W, Mirians could potentially look forward to A&W’s familiar menu, including its burgers, Coney Dogs, Curly Fries, fried chicken and the chain’s signature Root Beer Float.

For now, Mirians will have to wait for an official announcement from A&W Malaysia before the opening can be confirmed, but having more options for makan-makan is never a bad thing!
