2026 Federal budget: Sarawak gets two new schools, Sabah gets three schools

Sarawak will is proposed to have two new schools added to its list as the federal goverment today, with neighbouring Sabah proposed three new schools.

For Sarawak, the two schools proposed in the Malaysia federal budget are SK Sri Sarong in Serian, and SMK Desa Wira in Padawan.

Sabah on the other hand was proposed three primary school namely SK Sri Apas Jaya in Tawau, SK Alam Mesra in Kota Kinabalu, and SK Sabandar in Tuaran.

The five schools are part of the 38 schools announced nationwide by Johor (10), Melaka (3), Selangor (10), Penang (1), Kelantan (2), Pahang (1), Kedah (1), Negeri Sembilan (1), Kuala Lumpur (1) and Putrajaya (1).

The cost to build all 38 schools was not disclosed in the budget speech which was read by Prime Minister Daruk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, but he noted that ther nearly RM 2 billion will be allocated to upgrade 520 dilapilated schools, mostly in Sabah and Sarawak.

The prime minister also said that the Ministry of Education (MOE) continues to enjoy the biggest allocation for the 2026 budget with RM64.2 billion given to the ministry.
