New Kolej Profesional MARA Kapit to be ready in 2029

The Malaysian government is building a new Kolej Profesional MARA (KPM) campus in Kapit.

Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, the Minister of Works and Member of Parliament for Kapit, said this campus is a key project as it will give young people in rural areas a chance to get higher education and help close the gap between cities and rural areas.

The project costs RM79 million and Wangi Marine Services Sdn. Bhd. is the appointed contractor.

According to JKR, Kolej Profesional MARA campus Kapit is expected to be finished by December 5, 2029. It will include An Administrative block, Academic block, Library block, Student centre, Cafeteria, hostels for male and female students as well as 9 units of warden quarters.

The campus will be built on a 49.4-acre piece of land, about 15 kilometers from Kapit town. Images shared by DayakDaily show the campus incorporating Dayak motives in some of its facade as seen below.

About MARA Professional Colleges

Kolej Profesional MARA (KPM) is a network of government-assisted colleges in Malaysia, established by MARA (Majlis Amanah Rakyat) to develop skilled Bumiputera workforce, particularly in business, accounting, and information technology.

KPM generally has multiple intakes per year, typically in March, July, and November. Specific dates for application and registration are announced closer to the intake periods.

KPM is highly subsidized by MARA. While there are registration fees (around RM400-RM500, paid once upon entry, and a smaller fee per semester), the tuition fees are largely covered by MARA. Many students also receive a monthly living allowance (e.g., RM300-RM500) and may be eligible for TESP loans for professional certifications. Hostel accommodation is often provided, with priority for first-semester students, and can be free at some campuses.

KPM offers various diploma programs that are MQA-accredited. The syllabus focuses on practical skills and industry relevance, often integrating professional certifications. Currently there are six Kolej Profesional MARA campuses located across Malaysia nanmely, KPM Beranang (Selangor), KPM Ayer Molek (Melaka), KPM Indera Mahkota (Pahang), KPM Seri Iskandar (Perak), KPM Bandar Penawar (Johor)
and KPM Bandar Melaka (Melaka).
