Sarawak Gawai Dayak Celebration 2025 start on May 14th

The highly anticipated Sarawak State-Level Gawai Dayak Celebration for 2025 is set to unfold with a series of five key events spanning various locations across Kuching and Miri.

A report by TVS quoted Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas as announcing that the celebration this year will be themed ‘Segulai Sejalai’ (Together in Unity).

He also announced that the Sarawak state level celebrations will commence with the Gawai Dayak Bazaar at MJC Batu Kawa from May 14th to 25th.

This will be followed by the Gawai Dayak Open House on June 1st at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

The second significant event will be the Traditional Gawai Carnival which will happen at the Federation of Orang Ulu Malaysia Associations Forum (OMUF) Building in Miri from June 12th to 13th, 2025.

This is followed by the third key event which would be the Gawai Dayak Parade, slated for June 21st, 2025, at the Kuching Waterfront.

The pinnacle of the celebrations will be the Gawai Dayak Gala Dinner on June 22nd.

The dinner is expected to be graced by the presence of the Head of State of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Adding to the significance of this year’s observance, a special commemorative book will be published to enshrine the historical celebration and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Dayak community to future generations.

In a noteworthy gesture, the Orang Ulu community has been accorded the honor of hosting the Sarawak State-Level Gawai Dayak Celebration in 2025.

The celebrations last year (2024) was organized by the Bidayuh community.
