Sarawak should be able to exceed tourist arrivals target

Sarawak is looking forward to exceeding tourist arrival targets this year with the Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, admitting that the target seems to be within reach.

According to an article by TheStar, Karim’s confidence comes as he anticipates more tourist to arrive in Sarawak in the final quarter of the year.

He was quoted by the daily as saying that Sarawak had already recorded 703,891 visitor arrivals from January to July.

“We should easily beat the target because based on past records, the second half of the year always sees more visitors coming in, especially in October, November and December” he was quoted as saying.

Karim also noted that the return of musical and arts events this year, together with the reopening of borders for travel, has helped further increase figures to Sarawak related events.

He further noted that both the Rainforest World Music Festival and the Borneo Jazz Festival which concluded recently had exceeded attendance targets, and he is looking forward to other up-coming festivals as well.
