Re-opening of schools in Kuching District postponed to 3 August

The re-opening of schools in Kuching District for Peralihan students, Form 1 to Form 4 students, as well as Lower Form 6 students, has been postponed to 3 August 2020.

The Ministry of Education had previously announced that secondary schools will reopen in full from 15 July 2020.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today announced the decision following the recent concerns of Covid-19 cases in Kuching.

Also affected by the decision are schools in Padawan district and Kota Samarahan district.

The delay in re-opening of schools would also affect primary schools which were supposed to re-open on 22 July 2020.

Following the decision by SDMC, primary schools in the three districts will now only re-open on 3 August as well.

Some 87 schools are affected in Kuching district, with another 48 affected in Padawan, with the 3 listed in Samarahan.

Despite the decision, students in pre-school, Form 5 and Upper 6 are unaffected by the decision and are allowed to go to school as usual.
