Reconstruction of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Datuk Bandar Debak, Betong begins

Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Datuk Bandar Debak is officially undergoing a massive RM17.9 million reconstruction as the aging school is set to be replaced with a new campus which is equipped with modern facilities.

A RM17.9 Million Investment for the Future

The groundbreaking ceremony was officially held on March 30, 2026 and the reconstruction project has a price tag of RM17.9 million.

Suhc massive allocation was approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and it involves replacing the aging, inadequate structures with a brand-new three-story academic block alongside other much-needed modern facilities.

Handled by the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak and executed by Sawaja Maju Sdn Bhd, the construction is expected to take 24 months. The project officially kicked off in February 2026 and is slated for completion by February 2028.

According to UKAS, this massive upgrade is a strategic move to provide a safer, more conducive, and modern learning environment for the younger generation.

Facilities built at SK Datuk Bandar Debak

The following facilities are being built to replace the aging infrastructure at SK Datuk Bandar Debak:

  • Modern Support Infrastructure: General upgrades to create a fully equipped, comfortable, and conducive campus that bridges the development gap between urban and rural schools.
  • New Academic Blocks: Multi-story classrooms designed to provide a safer and more modern learning environment for the students.
  • Administrative Block: A dedicated operational space for the school’s faculty and management.
  • Preschool Facility: Dedicated classrooms and infrastructure to support early childhood education.
  • A Surau: A designated prayer hall for students and staff.
  • Teachers’ Quarters: On-site residential housing to accommodate the school’s educators, ensuring their welfare and convenience.

Empowering Rural Education in Sarawak

During the groundbreaking ceremony at the Debak Milinea Hall, Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn emphasized that the Sarawak government remains fiercely committed to upgrading dilapidated schools across the state.

He noted that a comfortable and modern learning environment directly impacts a student’s academic achievement and character development. The new physical infrastructure will perfectly complement the state’s ongoing educational initiatives, such as the Dual Language Programme (DLP), Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs, and free tuition initiatives.

Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam (who is also the Saribas assemblyman), highlighted that this rebuild is a symbol of hope. It restores parents’ trust in the local education system and proves that the voices of the rural community are being heard and prioritized.
