Miri ‘Golden Gate’ bridge to be future Miri tourist attraction

Miri, Sarawak, is buzzing with excitement as a new architectural marvel coming in the form of the Golden Gate Bridge is set to be launched on Hari Sarawak.

According to Borneo Post, the groundbreaking ceremony of the proposed Miri Golden Gate bridge lookalike will be done by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The bridge is said to immitate the iconic landmark reminiscent of San Francisco’s famed Golden Gate Bridge.

Currently known as the Miri River Mouth Bridge, as well as Piasau Bridge, the cable-stayed design bridge will connect Piasau to Miri Marina, eagerly promising to transform Miri’s skyline and boost its appeal as a tourist destination.

New Straits Times reports that Abang Johari had already greenlighted the construction of this ambitious bridge as he emphasized on its potential to become a truly iconic structure for the city.

While specific details regarding the bridge’s exact length, cost, and a definitive completion date are still emerging, it is understood that the project is a significant part of Sarawak’s ongoing infrastructure development.

Once completed, the Miri River Mouth Bridge is set to offer a more convenient route for drivers, allowing vehicles to cross the river directly via the river mouth, linking Marina Bay to the opposite shore near the port area.

This will undoubtedly alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity within Miri.
