The Council of the City of Kuching South (MBKS) is bringing this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations closer to local communities, with festivities taking place at three locations across Kuching South.
The celebrations will be held at Kenyalang Traffic Garden, Hui Sing Recreation Park and Taman Sahabat, offering residents and visitors different ways to enjoy the traditional festival with their families, friends and neighbours.
MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the decision to organise the celebrations at three locations was aimed at bringing the festival directly into neighbourhoods instead of concentrating activities at a single venue.
The approach also encourages greater use of public parks as community spaces where families, senior citizens and young people can gather and spend time together.
Mid-Autumn Festival at Kenyalang Traffic Garden
The celebration at Kenyalang Traffic Garden will take place on September 24 and 25, from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.
Visitors can look forward to food stalls, live performances, clown appearances, balloon giveaways, as well as free lanterns and mooncakes while stocks last.
Children will also be able to enjoy electric go-kart activities, complementing the traffic-themed concept of the park.
Hui Sing Recreation Park Celebration
At Hui Sing Recreation Park, the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration will be held on September 25 from 6pm to 9pm.
The programme will include free lanterns and mooncakes, games, lantern-themed riddles, a wishing wall and live performances.
The neighbourhood-focused event is designed to give residents around Hui Sing an opportunity to celebrate closer to home while meeting and spending time with their neighbours.
Moon In 2.0 at Taman Sahabat
Meanwhile, Taman Sahabat, or better known as Friendship Park, is hosting Moon In 2.0, which runs from September 17 to 27, from 4pm to 11pm. This means, at the time of this article, the festival had already begun at Taman Sahabat.
The programme takes a more contemporary approach to the Mid-Autumn Festival, with activities aimed particularly at attracting younger visitors.
A projected story and immersive themed experience are among the attractions, offering a modern interpretation of the traditional celebration.
