Kuching, Sibu and Miri to have LRT

A study on whether the use of Light Railway Trains (LRT) or Mass Rapid Trains (MRT) is feasible in Sarawak will be conducted by the Sarawak Government.

Shall it prove feasible, the government will likely build such services in major cities in Sarawak, with Kuching named as one of the cities involved.

The plan falls under the Sarawak City Redevelopment Masterplan which begins next year.

According to Sarawak Housing and Urbanisation Minister, Abang Johari Openg, the Sarawak Government needs to look into future needs especially with so many satellite towns popping up especially around Kuching.

The study is expected to take eight to 12 months.
