Jalan Padungan and Jalan Gambier to get facelift

Plans are currently on the way give both Jalan Padungan and Jalan Gambier a facelift hence making it more photo friendly and attractive.

The plans do not involve building new structures, but rather improving and decorating what already exist in both old streets.

DayakDaily reported that Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng shared the good news, in which the portal reported that some 10 shop lots at Jalan Padungan will be repainted for free by the council.

However, the article did not mentioned how many shop lots at Jalan gambier will get similar treatment although it was noted that Wee did say ‘several’, and that it was under Kuching North City Commission (DBKU).

The repainting project is expected to be completed before the coming Chinese New Year, which falls in February 2022.

Aside from the free paint job, the selected shops will also enjoy repairs and facelifts with MBKS also adjusting the lights along the Jalan Padungan to make it safer at night.

Similarities between Jalan Padungan and Jalan Gambier

Both Jalan Padungan and Jalan Gambier is popular among locals and tourist as it has some of the oldest shoplots in the city.

While Jalan Padungan is better known for a place to seek good food and machinery, Jalan Gambier is known best for seeking textile and spices.

That said, it is refreshing to know that both MBKS and DBKU are planning to further decorate the street, hence making it look nicer.

I am personally looking forward to it, and don’t forget to follow us on Facebook as well!
