Free school bus service for Kuching school kids
The Sarawak government will provide free school bus services in Kuching starting 3 August 2020.
Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg launched the service at Yayasan Sarawak today while stating that some RM5 million will be allocated for the service which would also cater Samarahan and Padawan districts.
Yayasan Sarawak was credited by Abang Johari for implementing the free bus service programme with the foundation saying that the service was implemented in collaboration with other government agencies.
Among the agencies also involved in the free school bus service are the State Ministry of Transport, Sarawak Education department, Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and Commercial Vehicle Licencing Board.
46 school buses and vans will cover 18 zones within Kuching, Samarahan and Padawan, covering some 32 primary and secondary schools within the area.
It was noted during the launch that the initiative was supposed to begin in March, but had to be delayed due to the Covid-19 Movement Control Order (MCO).
