Carlsberg artist-edition packaging unveiled for Gawai and Kaamatan

Carlsberg Malaysia has launched its highly anticipated fifth consecutive artist-edition packaging, paying homage to the deep cultural significance of rice in Sabah and Sarawak.

This year’s visually striking designs, a collaboration with talented local artists, aim to amplify local pride and celebrate the unique identities of both states.

The “By locals, For locals” Carlsberg Artist-Edition collection features the intricate rice art of Sabahan artist Nelson Lip and Sarawakian artist T. Bagak, who have meticulously crafted four distinct designs showcasing iconic symbols from their respective homelands.

Throughout the year, Carlsberg Smooth Draught will feature these captivating artworks on its cans and bottles.

Responding to popular demand, Carlsberg Danish Pilsner will also join this special edition lineup for a limited period during April and May.

The designs themselves offer a vibrant visual narrative of Borneo’s essence.

Sabah’s artwork on Carlsberg Smooth Draught proudly displays the majestic Mount Kinabalu, while Sarawak’s design features the revered Hornbill perched above a traditional longhouse.

Similarly, the limited-edition Carlsberg Danish Pilsner packaging highlights Sabah’s gentle Orangutan and the unique Rafflesia, alongside Sarawak’s iconic Sape and welcoming longhouse.

This initiative underscores Carlsberg’s ongoing commitment to recognizing and celebrating the rich cultural tapestry of Sabah and Sarawak through artistic collaboration.

The Carls Harvest Pesta in Kuching

To further commemorate this cultural fusion, Carlsberg is hosting the annual Carls Harvest Pesta in Kuching from May 15th to 18th.

This four-day celebration at Farley Kuching promises a vibrant blend of tradition and modernity, featuring live performances, traditional music and dance, Bornean culinary delights, and interactive experiences.

Attendees can also participate in rice art workshops and mixology sessions, with opportunities to win exclusive prizes and collect special edition memorabilia, reinforcing the spirit of unity and celebration.

They can also indulge in Bornean delights and fusion cuisines while immersing themselves in interactive experiences from crafting rice art bracelets and rice resin art to mixology workshops at the CarlsBar, with free Tuak Bombs served every two hours to keep the celebrations going.

On top of that all, early birds to the pesta will receive a free can of Carlsberg to welcome them to the festival.

And that’s not all, consumers can also get their hands on the collectable MesmeRICEsing plates, one celebrating the iconic symbols of Sabah and the other highlighting the essence of Sarawak via in-store promotions, while stocks last, and stand a chance to win Apple 16 Pros, 11 inch iPad Air or Apple Watch Series 10.
